It is with a deep sense of gratitude and humility that I assume office as the 14th Director of University Health Services, KNUST. I am grateful to the University Council, the Vice Chancellor and the entire University Community for the opportunity to serve in this capacity.
The University Health Services has a core mandate to provide healthcare to students of KNUST, staff and their dependents. Since its establishment in 1952 as a dressing station, it has progressively developed and expanded its services to include other patients within and beyond the Oforikrom municipality, where the hospital is situated, and greater Kumasi. This has been achieved through the vision, commitment and sacrifice of previous Directors of Health Services with support of the University Management and staff of the hospital.
My vision is for the University Health Services to become renowned for the provision of patient-centred care, conduct of impactful research and the training of world class health professionals. This is aligned with the University’s vision to build on KNUST’s leadership as the premier science and technology university in Ghana and to be among the top ten Universities in Africa. At the University Hospital, we commit ourselves to this.
I charge all our staff to put our shoulders to the wheel of time and bend it towards our individual and collective destinies. I also invite all our stakeholders, home and abroad to support our efforts to propel the hospital to its pride of place within the league of global University Hospitals.
